So I’m sitting at the terminal waiting on my plane and strike up a conversation with the lady next to me. Turns out she used to be a health-based blogger too (what are the odds). She gave it up when life got to hectic to keep up with the demand. We chatted about our personal journeys toward seeking out optimal health. Then it happened… I met someone who made their own deodorant! “I’ve always wanted to try it, but does it really work?” Her response was hilarious. “Well I don’t think I stink… At least no one has ever told me I do.” Knowing we would soon be separated by our different flight itineraries, she scrambled to get me the recipe. Our exchange was brief; I don’t even know if we exchanged names. But because of her, I get to share another way to go natural and limit even more potentially harmful chemicals from our daily lives.

Homemade Deodorant

3 Tbsp Coconut Oil – Virgin, Cold-pressed (softened)
2 Tbsp Baking Soda
2 Tbsp Corn Starch (or Arrowroot Powder or other starch of your choice)

Combine the baking soda and starch in a small bowl.
Add the softened coconut oil, and stir until well combined.

You have two options for use. If you prefer the rub-on method, place the mixture in a couple muffin liners and refrigerate until firm. You can keep these deodorant “pucks” in an airtight container in the fridge and rub it on like any other deodorant. If running to the fridge anytime you need deodorant isn’t your thing, you can keep the mixture at room temperature and apply it like a lotion. Note that at temperatures at or above 76, the mixture will liquefy.
